Parlor Jams at Horizon Hill
What: Join us for our new Parlor Jam on the last Saturday of August, September, and October from 1:00 – 3:00. Wayne Cantwell, the Flyin’ Fiddler, will lead an old-time jam session in the parlor at Horizon Hill, the home of territorial governor A.J. Seay. This program is for musicians of all levels and is a great learning opportunity to sit and play alongside seasoned performers. New players are encouraged to watch, listen, and then join in as we play our way through traditional “old time” hits. Acoustic instruments only, please. The event is free for musicians and will be open to museum visitors. For more information, contact the museum at 405-375-5176.

Boots, Beer, and BBQ Dinner
Boots, Beer, & BBQ Gala Dinner
What: Join us at The Chisholm for our annual fundraiser dinner. The evening will feature live music by the Red Dirt Rangers, BBQ and sides prepared by a working chuck wagon, drinks, dancing, and more on the lawn at Horizon Hill. This annual event helps support the museum and its mission. Each participant will receive dinner and drinks provided by Skydance Brewery! This event is limited to 150 participants, and tickets must be purchased in advance for $60 per person or $100 per pair.
When: 6:00 – 8:00 September 21. Dinner is served at 6:00.

Carved in Stone: Gravestone Symbols and Their Meanings
Join us at The Chisholm on October 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. for our Carved In Stone workshop and explore the meaning and history of gravestone symbols across time. Headstones often feature more than just names and dates. The language of symbols is international and surrounds us all the time. Symbols embellished on these markers can teach us about social memberships, occupations, hobbies, beliefs, and more. During this class, students will explore gravestone iconography and meaning before moving to the Kingfisher Cemetery to identify and explore symbols. Cast Iron Cooking
What: In this casual, fun class, participants will learn to care for and cook in cast-iron cookware. Participants will create a Dutch oven delight and participate in a group meal. The class will explore historical and modern recipes while learning how to cook in your own backyard. All materials needed for the class will be provided. This class is restricted to adults and children ages 12 and older. Drop in and see a variety of working chuck wagons from across the region as they prepare some of their favorite dishes. Activities include live music, cooking demonstrations and food samples, gunfights, Wild West Show performers, and more. Activities run from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Barn quilts, square-shaped boards painted to resemble a quilt block and placed on any structure, have evolved into a rural development initiative to boost tourism in communities. OSU Extension Educator Lindy Hoel will lead both workshops, and each participant will complete their own Barn Quilt to proudly display at home. Summer Sounds Concert Series
Join us on the third Thursday of June, July, and August at The Chisholm for our Summer Sounds Concert Series. Plan to come early and enjoy dinner from a featured food truck beginning at 6:00. Then, spread out your favorite blanket or set up a comfy lawn chair and enjoy live music from 7:00 – 8:30 at Horizon Hill, the home of territorial governor A.J. Seay. Each month will feature a unique group of Oklahoma musicians and a local food truck. The event is free and family friendly. For more information, contact the museum at 405-375-5176.
