Big Changes Underway!
The Chisholm Trail Museum is undergoing change. The museum has adopted a new name, new mission, and a new vision.
At The Chisholm, we will combine the old with the new, help create a sustainable future for our museum site, and expand beyond our mission to focus on Oklahoma's farming and ranching heritage. Farming and ranching have long played a role in shaping the lives of Oklahomans and our state. To help us achieve these goals, we are launching a capital campaign in May of 2024 for our 60th anniversary! Our goal is to raise $6 million dollars for our 60th anniversary and ensure the unique story of Oklahoma's farming, ranching, and agribusiness past is made available for the citizens of Oklahoma and its visitors. This endeavor is not just about physical changes, but a recommitment to our core mission-to collect, preserve, and share the rich narrative of Oklahoma's farming and ranching heritage. From the Indigenous past to contemporary issues, we aim to spotlight the individuals, families, and cultures who have shaped one of our state’s largest industries.
This $6 million dollar capital campaign project will allow the museum to completely renovate the museum, historic buildings, and mansion allowing for a better visitor experience and preservation of our collections and ensuring these resources are available for decades to come. The new design includes creating new educational spaces, improving community meeting spaces, and installing new exhibits throughout the complex.
The mission of The Chisholm is to collect, preserve, and share the story of farming and ranching heritage across Oklahoma from its historical past through contemporary issues.
At The Chisholm, we strive to engage, educate, and enrich our community and those who explore it by making the unique stories of farming and ranching accessible and relevant to today’s visitors. Through exhibits and programs, we seek to connect individuals to the historical traditions of farming and ranching, how these industries have evolved throughout time, and conservation efforts to create more sustainable practices. To accomplish this goal, we focus on the lives of individuals, families, and industries that have played a role in Oklahoma’s agricultural production. This project will allow us to shed light on the often-untold stories of individuals and communities that have long been participants but are rarely recognized as contributors to agriculture and the fabric of Oklahoma.
We hope you will help us build a legacy for the next genertaion.
